Mother’s Day Offering
We created a special spread to celebrate the maternal energy in the world. We are both mothers ourselves, and children of mothers, and grandchildren, and ancestors of matriarchal lineage. As we all are.
Today we honor all the relationships of Mothering.
Our 7 card spread has a crossing card that informs on each of the other 6 cards. The other six cards describe a way of mother & child relationship. They can be read for the one Mothering or for the one receiving the Mothering. So, for example, Card 3 Mother/Child death separation can be for a mother who has lost a child or a child who has lost their Mother figure to death.
Card 1 - Crossing Card of Maternal energy : Mother ( note here: this really is the card a shuffled deck turned up. Crazy but also, Of course) The Mother is the third stage of the Major Arcana. The numberless Storyteller has encountered the physical plane, passed through the shadow world and their potential is now being birthed into the alpha relationship. Our first experience of connection to other is the Mother. In this spread she is calling each of us into the realm of natural abundance and creation. Every human has the potential to offer Divine Feminine energy into their world, into their personal relationships, into their community. This crossing card challenges all of us to examine how we can heal and/or expand Mothering Love through the way we interact with others. Celebrate and meditate on your Mothering potential today.
Card 2 - Relationship; Mother/Child ; The Attic. this card falls into the second triad of the Major Arcana. Cards 8 - 15 speak to personal development; The Attic is stage 9. The soul has now left the experience of learning through outward structures and influences and starts their personal hero’s journey. Experiencing the world through individualism. No card reflects inward focus more then The Attic. When The Attic appears it is asking you to take some time for self. The mother & child relationship can be ALOT at times for both. It is a constant push pull of seeding stages and moments of growth. In many ways it is a grief cycle of creating new relationships and then losing them as a child’s soul reaches each new developmental stage. This card is asking us to recognize that both Mother and Child have a right to individual lives, to honor differences, and to self care, wants, needs, and desires. We need to allow space for each other with in this Maternal relationship.
Card 3 - Relationship; Mother/Child Death Separation: Two of Roses. Roses is the Minor Arcana suit of love, emotion, and relationships. Twos are the connection card. In the Two of Roses we see two roses caught in an unruly sea. Water indicates the emotional depth held in this relationship. The roses are being seemingly swept away from each other and that loss of closeness is scary and hurtful. The dual snakes winding their way around the staff of Mercury, messenger from God to man, reminds us that our love connection transcends time and space. The snakes climb towards the Flying Eyeball, representative of our third eye consciousness. Our ability to see and feel those we love even when their body has left the physical plane. Open your heart to the love lessons this relationship has brought into your life: the good, the grief, the all. They are still your mother, They are still your child, They are still LOVE.
Card 4 - Relationship; Mother/Child Life Separation: Page of Roses. The Page is the first court card in a suit and indicates a childlike innocence. Court cards are the only unnumbered cards in a tarot deck and so speak directly to human presence in our lives. The Page of Roses indicates a loss of emotional innocence in this spread. The Mother card crosses the Page in a way that speaks to the separation of Mother and Child. The Page of Roses may be both the Mother and the Child here. The Page longs for an ideal world but there is no perfect world out there. This card reminds us that there can be Mother wounds we might bear in our maternal relationships. Tough things that may want to rob us of our belief in the Alpha, original love. Things like adoption, the state stepping in, addiction, abuse, abandonment, toxicity. The list goes on. Being a mother or being a child protects no one from the pain in life. The Page asks us to hold onto our optimistic innocence in in the face of a difficult Mother/Child relationship. The Page assures us we can find the care we need in the world if we remain open.
Card 5 - Relationship; Mother/Child Not Birth Related: Eight of Roses. Not all Mothers gave birth to their children. Children and people that need mothering come into our lives through adoption, new marriages, our kids friends that need mothering, our neighbors, our students. There are many ways we create Maternal relations with people who did not birth us, or that we did not give birth to. The Eight is an even number indicating stability that has perhaps brought us into a difficult emotional space. The briar patch of roses up front shows that we are feeling emotionally like we don’t know how to expand our love. where is the right path out and across the dark sea of emotional depth to the horizon? The path of motherhood is never an easy one. It may be easy to think to oneself, things like ‘my step mother doesn’t love me like her own child’ or ‘do I have the same connection to this child who I didn’t birth’. The thoughts are merely an illusion brought about by the mind. There is always a path forward when the mission is love. Love is infinite and boundless, human structures hold no sway over how it grows in our lives.
Card 6 - Relationship; Mother/Child Fertility Issues: Eyes. The Eyes card is the final stage of the Major Arcana. The soul has now done all the growth here in the material plane and is ready to release back into the Cosmic Consciousness, better for having taken the journey, lived through both the troubles and triumphs of human life. The Eyes card indicates the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new. In this spread it holds the space for Mothers struggling to birth their maternal relationship into the world. Fertility issues are not one of my personal mothering experiences but for a brief 3 years when I was unclear if I would ever have a second child. I had given my first up for adoption and 15 years later was trying for my second. I remember the uncertainty and pain of those years. I believe Eyes has shown up in this spread, in this position, to remind us of the continuing cycle of spirit and life. The Eyes show that all in life is one, though we live in the world, we are not of the world. We are always connected to our soul family, our children, our mothers and ancestors though they never materialize on this plane. Eyes holds space for your hope, your grief, your human experience today and always.
Card 7 - Relationship; Caregiver/ Non-gendered Maternity: Knight of Bears. Bears is the suit of home and work. Knights are the second stage of the courts, full of determined movement and action. They are the fire element married in this case to the earth element of the Bears. The Knight of Bears is determined and ambitious. Not all Maternal energy is brought by the traditional Mother/Child relationship or a person with female assigned gender at birth. Every human contains the ability to call Maternal love into their lives and the live’s of others around them. This card is for those caregivers out there, doing the daily work to care for their communities with a Mothering love. This card’s song is Help on the Way and I can’t think of a more honoring or expressive card to thank all those who are doing the hard and determined work to care for other humans beings.
All you mothers out there make the world turn round!
Grateful for each and every one of you.
